Palm Up or Palm Down? Most People Hold Their Crystals Wrong
Nobody tells you this bit. You buy your first crystal, you look up what it's for, you sit down with it in your hand, and that's where the instructions run out.
But the way you hold it changes what you're actually doing.
Palm up, fingers open, hand resting on your knee or your lap. That's a receiving position. You're open, you're asking, you're making space for something to come in.
Palm down, hand resting on your leg or flat on a table with the crystal underneath or beside it. That's releasing. You're setting something down. You're letting it go into the ground.

Same crystal. Same person. Opposite intention.
Why this trips people up
Here's the mistake I see constantly, and I made it myself for ages. Someone is working with black tourmaline because they want to put down a load of stress they've been carrying around all week. Genuinely good instinct, right crystal. And they're sat there with their palm turned up, hand open, asking.
Asking for what? More of it.
The stone isn't confused. Your body is doing one thing and your intention is doing another, and your body usually wins that argument.
Flip it. Same crystal, palm turned down, and suddenly the posture and the purpose agree with each other.
Try this, it takes two minutes
Pick up whichever crystal is nearest. Doesn't matter which one it is, this works with anything.
Sit down somewhere comfortable and rest your hand palm up on your knee, crystal sitting in your open hand. Stay there for thirty seconds. Don't do anything clever, just notice. What happens to your shoulders? Your chest? Your breathing?

Now turn your hand over. Crystal under your palm, hand resting on your leg. Another thirty seconds. Same question. What changed?
Most people notice their chest opens a bit on the first one and their shoulders drop on the second. Some people feel almost nothing the first time they try it, which is completely fine and not a sign you're doing it wrong. It usually shows up by the third or fourth go.
That's it. That's the practice.
How to use it from now on
Rough rule. If you're asking for something, go palm up. Clarity, confidence, abundance, calm, love, all of it.
If you're getting rid of something, go palm down. Stress, other people's moods, a bad day, resentment, the meeting that went badly.
And when you're doing both in one sitting, which is most of the time honestly, do the releasing first. Empty out, then ask. It's a lot easier to receive something when you're not already full.
Try it tonight with whatever you've got to hand and see if you notice the difference. It's a small thing and it costs you nothing, but it's one of those adjustments that makes everything else you do with crystals land a bit harder.
